If you’re wanting to find an American Eagle style number, you’ve come to the right place! Maybe you’re looking for the style number of your favorite American Eagle garment, or you’re looking to resell an American Eagle item you picked up at the thrift.
Regardless, American Eagle seems to be a timeless brand for all. Whether it's jeans, tops, dresses, or swimwear, we’ve got the answer to find your American Eagle style number right here.
In this post, we go over 4 different ways to perform an American Eagle Style number lookup. They’re all super quick and easy - I promise!
Jump to:
Price Tag
The first way to find your American Eagle style number is to use the price tag, as long as it’s still attached. Here, you will look for a 4-digit code.
In the case of this tie-dye dress, the code is 1373. Take that code and input it into Google. In this case, I searched “American Eagle dress 1373.”
However, I must warn you this method does not work every time. If it doesn't work, try inputting one of the other numeric codes found on the tag.
This method does not always work because typically, American Eagle does not assign actual style names to their clothing items. Alternatively, clothing items are given descriptive names like “high neck mini dress.”
However, if this method does not work, don’t worry! We still have three more methods to show you.
Materials Tag
The next place to look for your American Eagle style number is on a different tag on the garment. This time, look for the materials tag. This is the one that gives the washing instructions and fabric content.
To find this tag on a clothing item, look at the inside seam of the garment. You should run across a bunch of tags with one small tag behind them all.
This small tag is the one that includes the American Eagle style number. Again, you will see a 4 digit code. This time, it’s located after the date portion.
For this example, it states 03/20, meaning the garment was produced in March 2020. The style number code is 4891.
Again, input this code into a Google search and see what results are yielded. For example, "American Eagle skirt 4891." If this style number code does not work, try the number above.
The number located above the date and style number is longer, usually 10 characters in total. As mentioned earlier, American Eagle style numbers are not foolproof.
That is why these next two methods may be the best way to find your American Eagle style number. So let's get into them!
Google Reverse Image Search
Next, we’ll discuss how to do a Google Reverse image search. This process is quick and easy.
First, take a picture of the item with your smartphone. From there, go to the picture and select “Search with Google Lens.” For my Android users, you can use the Google Lens app directly.
After Google works its magic, you should see visual results for your search. You may have to scroll a little bit to find what you’re looking for.
Many times this will lead you either to the retailer’s website, or a secondhand platform like Poshmark, eBay, or Mercari.
If you still are unable to find your American Eagle style number, it’s not time to give up hope just yet. There’s one last method I want to teach you.
Item Descriptors
Last but not least, you can use item descriptors to try and find your item. For my tie-dye dress example, I searched “American Eagle tie-dye mini dress high neck blue white.”
Many times this will take you to the standard Google search results page. You may want to select the “Image” search in order to see the visual results.
Again, you may have to scroll to find what you’re looking for. Also, keep an eye out for items that are the same style but in a different color. This may help lead you down the path to your exact item.
How To Find American Eagle Jeans Style Number
Finding the style number on a pair of American Eagle jeans can be just as easy as any other clothing item.
However, there are typically fewer methods to find the style number as the Google Image Search and item descriptors options are now limited with a pair of jeans. It would be pretty hard for either of those methods to pick up your exact item due to the general lack of uniqueness or specific patterns and landmarks with jeans.
Because of this, we will rely on the tag method to find the American Eagle style number for your pair of jeans.
As you can see in my example, I have it pretty easy because the tags are still attached to my item. I am able to see that this pair of jeans is the American Eagle Curvy High Rise Jegging in Fresh Bright.
However, notice the 4-digit code on the tag as we talked about earlier. It reads “2283.”
This number also matches the 4-digit code on the inner tag. When I input “American Eagle 2283”, a result is populated that takes me to the curvy jeggings section of the American Eagle website.
Conclusion
Now you’ve got a few strategies up your sleeve when it comes to finding your American Eagle style number.
Although American Eagle’s system for marking style numbers can be frustrating, all of these methods take less than 60 seconds each and can hopefully bring you closer to finding your American Eagle item.

Natasha
Hi! Do you have this kind of information for shoes from there? Trying to ID some boots that I got from someone from there originally!
Amanda Manera
Hi, Natasha!
Luckily, the sequence is very similar for shoes. If you look on the tongue, you should see a 4-digit code. On an older pair of American Eagle shoes, it might be referred to as the "Stock No."
If not, I would try the Google Lens method!
Let me know how it goes 🙂
