Lululemon is a popular luxury athleticwear brand. Lululemon dominates the athletic apparel space with their comfy yet functional and stylish clothing items.
Additionally, Lululemon has expanded into the footwear sector, along with other accessories perfect for an active lifestyle. Hello, belt bag trend!
Whether you were gifted a Lululemon item, found it at a secondhand store, or it has just been so long since you purchased the item, you may be wondering how to find the style number.
In this post, we’ll go over different strategies to find your Lululemon style number and size dot for any apparel item.

How To Find A Size Dot
The first method to finding the style number for your Lululemon piece is to use the size dot. But first, you’ll need to know how to find the size dot on each piece.
Tank Tops
If your tank top has a built-in bra, you can find the size dot on the inside of the built in bra part. If you were wearing the item, the size dot will be located on the left side.
Look on the inside of the slit where you would put in or take out removable cups, and you will find the size dot.
Shirts and Jackets
On a shirt that does not have a pocket, you can find the size dot typically in one of two places. Either look on the inside neckband or on the inside of the bottom hem band.
Imagine you are wearing the item, and you can locate the size dot either on the back of the left side of the neckline or the hem band.
If your shirt or jacket has pockets, then you can expect to find the size dot on the inside of the pocket. Sometimes the pockets will be located on the inside of the garment, hidden within the seam, or in a more obvious location, like on the front of the shirt or jacket.
Regardless, the size dot will typically be located in the center of the pocket. It will be on the outermost material part of the pocket. Imagine you are slipping your hand inside the pocket. It will be on the surface that the back of your hand/ knuckles are touching.
If the garment is a hoodie, you can expect the size dot to be located on the left of the hoodie pocket (when wearing it). Again, it will be on the surface the back of your hand touches.
Pants, Bottoms, Leggings, and Shorts
Just like with tops, the first thing you should do when looking for a size dot is check for pockets. These can be hidden throughout the bottoms including on the outside of the waistband, somewhere interior, hidden within a seam, hidden on the side, or out in the open.
For your leggings with outside pockets, look inside the left leg pocket to find the size dot. Pants are different from tops in the fact that size dots typically are located on the palm surface when reaching in a pocket, not on the back of the hand surface.
There is one common exception to the palm side rule on pants. If the pocket has an extra hidden pocket within it, the size dot may be located on the back of the hand side.
Many shorts have a small back zipper pocket either on the waistband or on the side. For a center zip pocket on the waistband, look here for the size dot. With a side pocket, look in the left side pocket.
Style Number Using The Size Dot
Now that we’ve found the size dot, it is important to know the age of the size dot and how to read it. In the center of the size dot, you will see the numeric size of the garment.
On garments produced prior to 2017, the numerical size will be the only thing printed on the size dot.
For garments released from January 2017 through January 2019, there will be a combination of letters and numbers.
Additionally, there was a change to the size dot starting in February 2019. So how do we tell all of these apart?
Reading A Size Dot Prior to 2017
As mentioned earlier, the only piece of information you will be able to obtain from a size dot on a Lululemon item that was made prior to 2017 is the size itself. There are no other markings or determinants to point you in the direction of a style number or name.
If this is the case for your specific item, skip to the next step of finding a style number.
Reading A Size Dot: January 2017 to January 2018
To read this size dot, start at the bottom left. This is where you will see either a “W” or an “M”. it will be at about the 6:30 position on a clock for most garments.
“W” is notifying you that it is a women’s garment. “M” tells you that it was created as a garment for a man.
Including the “W” or the “M”, note the first 6 characters. This is the style number of your Lululemon item.
Reading A Size Dot: 2019 to Present
On the outside of the size dot, you will see a combination of numbers and letters. Here, you can find the year, season, and most importantly, the style number of the Lululemon garment.
The style number for these pieces of clothing starts similarly with either a “W” for women, or “M” for men.
Following the “W” or “M”, there will be a combination of 5 more letters and numbers. The last letter signifies the first letter of the color of the item.
After the last letter, there will be a period. Then, you will see 4 numbers. The 4 numbers represent the season and year of the garment.
The sequence is as follows: the season then the year. Lululemon uses a numeric code for the seasons:
- 01 - Spring
- 02 - Summer
- 03 - Fall
- 04 - Winter
The year will be the last two digits of the year that the clothing item was released.
Using Lulu Fanatics
Lulu Fanatics is a website created by a fellow Lululemon fanatic, Kym. Kym created a website compiling a large database of Lululemon pieces that have been released since the humble beginnings of the company.
If you have the size dot and the style number, you can look it up directly on the Lulu Fanatics website. Here's an example:
However, even if you don't have the size dot, you can still use Lulu Fanatics to help you find your style number.
On the website, there are categories for each type of clothing item or accessory. You can further refine what you are searching for by using filters for color, material, pattern, and more.
Once you find the piece you are looking for, Lulu Fanatics has information about the release date, the style number, and the original price.
Plus, if you’re wanting to buy that item, it even has eBay listings that you can go directly to for purchase.
This is a great tool for my fellow resellers because you can do research on comparable items if you are looking to sell your Lululemon apparel item.
Also, it will cut down the time you spend on finding stock photos since they are already there on Lulu Fanatics.
Using Google Lens
You can also use a super cool Google feature to find your Lululemon item. If you don’t have it already, download the Google app on your phone.
Snap a picture of your Lululemon item, go to that picture, then to the picture settings, and that is where you will see “Search with Google Lens”.
Tap that option, and watch Google work its magic. It will pull up visual search results of items that resemble your Lululemon piece.
As you can see, I was able to find the same pair of Lululemon leggings used in the Lululemon Fanatics example.
Using Item Descriptors
So maybe you’re unable to find the size dot, Lulu Fanatics wasn’t any help, and Google Lens wasn’t able to find your specific item. You can still search for the item with descriptive keywords in an effort to find it.
Describe the item in great detail. Start with the brand, then describe the type of item, color, length, style, and state if it is men's or women's.
This will hopefully pull up Google search results that match your item. Also look in the “images” and the “shopping” tab of Google for more results.
With these tips and tricks, I bet you’ll be able to find any piece of Lululemon that you’re needing to find!

Hey Emily,
You're very welcome! Now that you know, the process is pretty quick and easy, isn't it?!
Happy to help 🙂

Brooke
Are you able to look the item up with the rip tag? My item doesn't have a size dot, just the rip tag.
Amanda Manera
Hey Brooke!
Unfortunately Lululemon does not put their style numbers on the rip tag. The rip tags are able to give you an idea about the age of the item, but not the style number. For more information on Lululemon rip tags, be sure to read our other post!
Since you have the rip tag only, I'd suggest using the descriptive method or the Google Lens method to find your item. Let me know if you need any help with that!
