Items Plato’s Closet does NOT accept
Next, we will go through items that Plato’s Closet does not accept, including any exceptions to the allowed lists we just outlined.
Items Without The Size Tag
Plato’s Closet does not accept items that do not have a size tag. This includes both clothing and shoes.
This is because neither the Plato’s Closet worker nor the customer will know the size of the item. Items without a size tag tend to not sell well for the store, thus Plato’s Closet plays it safe and does not accept those items.
Sport Specific Clothing And Shoes
Although Plato’s Closet accepts athletic shoes, sport-specific shoes are not accepted. This means they will not take soccer or football cleats, track spikes, golf shoes, ballet slippers, or any other type of sportswear shoe.
In addition, Plato’s Closet typically does not accept jerseys. At times, they may make an exception if it is a local sports team.
Workwear
Plato’s Closet does not accept clothing or shoes that have to do with a specific line of work. For example, Plato’s Closet does not accept scrubs or Dansko shoes from my fellow healthcare workers.
This buy-sell-trade store also does not accept workwear boots or steel-toed boots.

In summary, Plato’s Closet does not take work clothes.
Plain Items
Although Plato’s Closet accepts many different types of clothing, plain items are generally not accepted. This means your plain dress or top will likely not be accepted. Plato’s Closet prefers items that have patterns, colors, or other prints on the item.
Formal Items
On the other hand, Plato’s Closet generally does not accept formal items. This means that you cannot sell your homecoming dress, prom dress, or wedding dress at Plato’s Closet.
Although women’s heels, wedges, and other more formal shoes are accepted, men’s dress shoes are not. Additionally, men’s formal clothing items like blazers, button-up shirts, and dress pants are not accepted.
Used Undergarments
It should go without saying, but Plato’s Closet does not buy used undergarments from its customers. Depending on the store, undergarments (like bras, underwear, and socks) may not be accepted at all.
Most locations accept bras and underwear if they still have the tags attached. There is one exception, as sports bras without a tag are typically accepted by Plato’s Closet.

Does Plato’s accept shoes that have been redesign( such as custom painted shoes) like Jordan’s or Nike or shoes that have been painted that’s different from the original design?
Amanda Manera
Hello! Typically Plato's Closet only buys shoes in excellent original condition.
However, it may be worth calling your local store or bringing the shoes up to your store for them to evaluate! Let me know how it goes 🙂

I was wondering do they take fitted sheets and bed sets? Or just clothing and wearable items?
Amanda Manera
Hi Bayleigh!
Unfortunately Plato's Closet does not take bed sheets. You are correct- they only accept clothing items, along with other apparel/accessories (purses, shoes, jewelry, some beauty products).
Thanks!
