Poshmark is inherently a social eCommerce platform. This marketplace encourages its users to interact with others in order to increase sales and success on the platform.
So, you are probably wondering how to grow your following Poshmark. I’m sure you’ve seen users with followers in the 6 figures.
I’m sure you’re also wondering if it is even worth it to grow your follower count on Poshmark.
As a Poshmark user since 2016, I can proudly say my follower count has grown to the 6 figure mark. In this post, we’ll discuss the exact strategies I used to reach this landmark, the best tips surrounding Poshmark followers, and if it is actually worth your time to focus on this metric.

What Are Poshmark Followers?
Poshmark is different from many other eCommerce platforms when it comes to followers. Unlike Mercari or eBay, it can be easy to rack up thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of followers on Poshmark.
Poshmark followers are different because they are more similar to a social media platform. On the Poshmark platform, you are able to follow and be followed by other users. On the main Poshmark community feed, you are able to see activity by other users including their new listings, recent shares, and more.
All Poshmark users can see your follower count on your closet. The number will be located on the top of your closet page. This is also where you can see your number of listings, number of shares, in addition to how many users you follow.
Poshmark followers are most important for casual buyers who are meandering through your closet. It may increase trust with your potential customers within your closet if they see a lot of activity and a lot of followers.
However, the amount of Poshmark followers you have does not have a direct representation of your Poshmark sales. This is why it can be a common mistake for new people to fixate too much on follower count.
While it can be beneficial to gain more followers, due to them not being directly tied to sales, it is recommended that sellers do not spend too much time performing the strategies that we will discuss manually.
1. Use A Virtual Assistant
No matter what anyone tells you, the fastest, and in my opinion, the only worthwhile way to gain followers on Poshmark is by using a virtual assistant. And no, I don’t mean a real, live virtual assistant that you pay to do the task for you manually.
Instead, opt for a truly virtual assistant in the form of a Poshmark bot. And here’s where I must say that technically within Poshmarks terms, bot activity is not allowed on the platform.
However, it is well known that bots on Poshmark are used widely by closet owners of all sizes. The trusty bot that I use is PosherVA.
PosherVA is a browser extension that has a wide variety of extremely helpful features, one of them being auto-follows.
Within the PosherVA settings, you can put guidelines in place for the bot to follow a certain number of Poshmark users each day.
Once you have the settings ready to go, you’ll never have to lift a finger for another follower ever again. PosherVA has guidelines stating users should not follow more than 7,000 people daily, so it allows you to put a cap on your following activity.
By following other users on Poshmark, you will automatically get many of those users to follow you back, too. We're talking hundreds to thousands of followers each day!
The beauty of it is you don't even have to pay for this service if you don't want to or if it's not in the budget for you. PosherVA's free version has, although more limited than the paid version, capabilities to perform auto follows to increase your Poshmark follower count.
It is important to be mindful though, because similarly to Poshmark share jail, you could end up in Poshmark follower jail. However, follower jail is much less of a concern with its high ceiling on a follower limit.
Rest assured you will be in good hands with PosherVA.
PosherVA can also assist with other tasks on Poshmark including sharing, delisting and relisting, sending out bulk offers, bulk price updating, and more.
However, I’ll spare you the details here and let you read everything you need to know about PosherVA in another post. If you're ready to give PosherVA a try, head over to the PosherVA website for more info and to sign up!
2. Following Other Users Manually
This strategy involves you manually following Poshmark users in order for them to follow you back.
Although not my preferred method, you can easily do this by navigating to the Poshmark feed, selecting a random listing, and then selecting that person's closet. From here, navigate to their followers, then start going down the line and selecting “Follow” by each user.
Once those buyers see they obtained a new follower, it is highly likely that closet will follow you right back.
3. Sharing Other Closets
In a similar fashion to following other closets, sharing other listings will also increase your follower count. You can share Poshmark listings from other closets to the Poshmark feed, on social media platforms, and to Poshmark Parties.
First, find a listing or closet that you like. My preferred method is to find a listing that you like. I typically search for a brand that I also sell in my closet.
For example, in the search bar, search for Lululemon leggings. You will likely find a closet that sells other Lululemon items.
Once the closet owner sees you sharing their Lululemon items, they may look into your closet and see you have that brand also. They will likely share your listings too, along with following you back.
4. Participate In Poshmark Parties
By participating in Poshmark parties, you can gain followers by connecting with other users in a more intimate way. Posh Parties are live events where a user will host a themed party.
It may be an athleticwear party, a designer party, a homecoming party, or any other relevant theme. Users are able to share their items that fit within the party category. If you have specific items that match the theme, you can share your listings to the party feeds.
This increases exposure to your items as shoppers may be looking specifically within the virtual Posh party items for their purchase. Due to this, more users may be led to your closet and give you a follow.
5. Use Style Tags
Similarly to Poshmark Parties, you can narrow down your items into specific categories by using style tags. Style tags can be anything - from an event to a color, to a style, a print, a material, or any other item description.
You can insert style tags into your items on the listing form. Poshmark allows 3 style tags per listing. If you start to type in a letter, Poshmark will suggest words for you.
However, you are able to create your own style tag if it is not already in Poshmark’s system.
Again, this is a way for buyers to filter by a certain style tag in order to find the exact item they are looking for. This could ultimately lead them to your closet and gain you a new follower.
6. Create Quality Listings
Another great way to gain more followers in Poshmark is simply by crafting good listings. It is important to have an inviting, quality cover photo.
The more professional and well-put-together your closet looks, the more likely others will want to follow you. Buyers will want to follow because they like the look and feel of your closet, while sellers may want to follow you for inspiration.
Another strategy you can use is organizing your closet. Within your closet, you can share your best listings to where they show up at the top of your closet.
That way, potential customers who browse your closet will get a true, professional look and feel. This also helps overall elevate the customer's experience when shopping on a secondhand platform.
6. Be Consistent
It is extremely important to stay consistent on Poshmark. Due to the app being highly social, it is vital to keep interacting with other users in order for you to stay in good standing with the Poshmark algorithm.
When you are consistent, ideally on a daily or weekly basis, the tasks of maintaining your closet on the platform are not as daunting and overwhelming. Plan to be consistent with tasks like listing items, sharing items, following others, and more.
If you can, carve out a little time on the app each day or week to accomplish the tasks that you want.
At the end of the day, do your best to keep an active closet, and the results will show over time.
Should I Worry About Getting More Followers?
Well, it depends. Technically, there are no direct benefits to having more followers on Poshmark. Your items being found and purchased on the Poshmark app come from other users searching for and finding a specific item they want.
It is highly unlikely that one of your followers will go out of their way to purchase an item from your closet. It is also unlikely that they will share a specific item with another person which will lead to a purchase.
The Poshmark algorithm runs off of search, not exposure from follower count. This is why I do not recommend that you spend too much time manually obtaining followers. However, there can still be underlying benefits of gaining more Poshmark followers.
First, as discussed earlier, gaining more followers helps you play into herd mentality or social proof. Basically, if other people see a lot of people are following you, they will likely also want to follow you and give you credibility.
Additionally, if a user is looking to make a purchase and is unfamiliar with the app, they may side with a closet that has more followers and credibility over a closet that has fewer followers.
With that being said, there are so many more factors that play into landing the sale and attracting buyers including taking quality pictures, writing a descriptive title, and more. If you need more help in other areas, we have a Poshmark guide for beginners that you can browse through.
Becoming A Poshmark Ambassador
Another perk of getting more followers on Poshmark has to do with becoming a Poshmark Ambassador. If you’re unfamiliar, Poshmark has two programs of Poshmark Ambassadors: Poshmark Ambassador I and Poshmark Ambassador II.
Poshmark created this program to showcase preferred users who demonstrate consistency and regular activity interacting on the platform.
As a part of the requirements for becoming a Posh Ambassador, you have to share a certain amount of community shares and share new Poshers, among other tasks. At this time, there is no requirement to have a certain number of followers.
However, followers and shares are closely interlinked. Once you obtain your Poshmark Ambassador status, your Posh Ambassador badge will appear on your account.
The combination of the Poshmark Ambassador badge and a high follower account will give a level of perceived trust and professionalism to your potential buyers.
Once you achieve the Poshmark Ambassador status, you gain a competitive advantage when it comes to obtaining followers. One of the perks of being a Posh Ambassador involves Poshmark giving you daily auto-follows from other users.
That’s right, without even lifting a finger Poshmark will have other accounts automatically follow you. This mainly comes from new users that the site automatically has follow you.
When new Poshmark user signs up for the app, they are asked to select brands they like and sizes they prefer. This is the basis for the followers that you will receive. If the new seller likes certain brands and/or sizes that you sell, Poshmark may have them automatically follow you.
This allows users to have a relatable closet to shop around in or gain tips from. The number of new followers that you get each day varies, there is no known number to the community.
Overview
Here are the best strategies to gain more followers on Poshmark:
- Use a virtual assistant
- Follow other closets
- Share listings from other closets
- Participate in Poshmark Parties
- Use style tags
- Create quality listings
- Be consistent
As a bonus, becoming a Poshmark Ambassador helps grow your follower count, too.
Of all of the ways above, the best way to grow your follower base is by using a virtual assistant or a bot. This allows a hands-free, stress-free, and consistent approach to following other closets.
Because at the end of the day, the number of followers you have does not define your Poshmark business success.
This is why Poshmark sellers, both those who use it as a side hustle and those who use it as a full-time job, should not worry about obtaining followers due to it not having a direct impact on what is important - sales!
Focus on the tasks that push the needle and keep up your good reputation, like sharing your own items, listing new items, improving existing listings, and responding to customer inquiries. Anything else will just be an added bonus.
