Why Should I Use This Feature?
The first reason you may want to utilize Poshmark vacation mode is if you will be out of town. If you’re on a trip, you will probably spend some time away from your phone or laptop.
Most importantly, you will likely be away from your inventory. Therefore, placing your closet on vacation mode marks your listings at “Not Available”, so buyers cannot purchase items while you are away.
Although items are not able to be purchased, they will still appear in Poshmark search. This means you may still receive comments, likes, and bundle comments from buyers. It is completely up to you whether you want to respond while you are on vacation mode.

If you decide you are not going to respond to inquiries, one option to communicate with your buyers is to create a listing that lets them know you will be away. Add a picture, and in the description state when you are planning on returning.
Make sure this listing the first to appear in your closet so potential buyers that are browsing will know you are not available. Plus, this may encourage customers to keep liking your items for purchase when you return.
You may also want to utilize vacation settings if you need to take a break from selling. This could be for many reasons, including taking time off for the holiday or a maternity leave, just to name a few.
Additionally, you may be burnt out with selling and feel like taking a step back would be beneficial. The good thing about Poshmark vacation mode is your closet will be back up and running as it was before with just one click.
Whatever the reason may be, vacation mode can help you avoid feeling overwhelmed with the demands of reselling during busy seasons of life.
Setting Up Vacation Mode
Your Poshmark vacation mode process can begin as soon as immediately, or you can set it to a date up to 6 months in advance.

But before you put your closet on hold, here are a few important reminders and housekeeping items. First, know that you are still required to ship purchases made prior to you turning on vacation mode.
Putting your closet on vacation mode does not cancel or have any effect on orders already placed. So when you go to schedule your Poshmark vacation mode, make sure you have factored in time to get the last-minute sales out before you take your break.
Second, if you are going to be away for an extended period of time, consider temporarily canceling any subscriptions you use for your business. For me, this includes Vendoo and PosherVA.
Double-check when the subscriptions are going to renew and evaluate if it would make sense to put those on hold too.
Once you've covered all of your bases, follow the steps below to use vacation hold on Poshmark.
- Open the Poshmark app.
- Tap on the tab with your username in the bottom navigation bar.
- Tap on the "My Seller Tools" tab.
- Scroll down and tap on "Vacation Hold".
- Toggle vacation hold to on.
- Select the dates that you will be away and tap "Save”.
Turning Vacation Mode Off
On the flip side, I suggest ending your Poshmark vacation mode 1-2 days earlier than your actual return date. That way, you can start generating some sales again but will have a few days on the back end to get the sales out once you return.

To turn off vacation hold on Poshmark, follow these steps:
- Open the Poshmark app.
- Tap on the tab with your username in the bottom navigation bar.
- Tap on the "My Seller Tools" tab.
- Scroll down and tap on "Vacation Hold".
- Toggle vacation hold to off.
- Tap "Save” and confirm you would like to turn off vacation hold.
How To Avoid Putting Your Closet On Hold
Although vacation mode is a great tool to have, there are a few downsides to using it. First, no available listings means no sales, and thus no money coming back to you and your business.
For short trips of breaks, (3 days or less) I suggest keeping your closet active. That way, sales can still come in when you're away, and you will have at least a day following your return to ship out the items.
If your business typically staffs employees, you may not ever have to worry about vacation hold. However, if you’re a one (wo)man band, you may have to get creative to keep your closet running without you.
Start by asking or hiring a trusted friend or family member. If they are willing and able, you can easily train them to take over temporarily.

This will involve teaching them how the platform works, your inventory system, and how you would like them to pack and ship items.
The reason you may want to avoid freezing your closet is the possibility of losing traction with the algorithm. With that being said, I don’t know all of the ins and outs of the Poshmark algorithm (I mean truly- who does?).
However, I do know that the longer the listing sits, the further down it goes when buyers search by the “Just In” filter.
One solution to this is delisting and relisting items with the help of Vendoo. Once you return from your break, you can easily refresh all of your Poshmark listings. This way, they will show up as hot new items again.
Lastly, if you are a multi-platform reseller, make sure you consider vacation settings for your Mercari and/or eBay accounts.
Mercari vacation mode and eBay's Time Away feature operate differently than Poshmark vacation settings. So, make sure you understand the ins and outs of those platforms too.
Ultimately, taking time off for yourself, your family, and/or your leisure is important to overall well-being. You’ll get back to making sales in no time, and feel much more refreshed while doing it.
