The results I found were from secondhand resale sites like eBay and Poshmark, along with Pinterest. Here, I am able to either purchase the item or find out more information about it.
However, the original tags may not remain attached to your clothing item. If that’s the case, we have another method for you up next.
Look At The Inner Tags
If you’re missing the original price tag, no worries. The next place that we will look for a Banana Republic item number is on the inner tags.
These are typically located on the inside seam of your garment. You will be looking for the tags that outline the washing instructions and materials of the item.
Once you find these tags, flip to the smallest one in the very back. This is the tag that has your style number!

As you can see, we have found another 6-digit code. This time it reads, “266458.” As we discussed earlier, disregard any other letters or special characters.
In this case, the tag also gives us our style and color name. Even without Googling, I know that this shirt is the Banana Republic Authentic Crew in Preppy Navy.
Not every inner tag has the style name included, so you may have to perform a Google search like we talked about in the section above.
It is important to note that the style number lookup may not work for every item. This is especially the case for older items.
