Poshmark is known as one of the top online reselling marketplaces. However, you may be wondering, is Poshmark worth it?
If you’re new to selling online, getting started may appear intimidating. With anything new, there is going to be a learning curve.
So the question remains if the time and energy spent on that learning curve will be worth it. As someone who has sold on Poshmark for eight-plus years now, I can confidently answer the question of if selling on Poshmark is worth it.
When I signed up for Poshmark back in 2016, I never knew how much it would change my life.
So in this post, we will go over if Poshmark is worth it and some tips for getting started from a seasoned Poshmark pro!

Is Selling On Poshmark Worth It?
So, it it worth it to sell on Poshmark? The short answer is: it depends. But wait, let me explain!
I’m not here to say that selling on Poshmark is worth it for everyone.
However, I will say this: last year, I was able to sell over $25,000 worth of items within my online reselling business. And while it has taken years to grow to that amount, for me personally, Poshmark is completely worth it!
Poshmark allows me to work and make money on my own time. There’s no clocking in or clocking out.
I get to choose when I work on my Poshmark online reselling business. However, the downsides of that come into play because there is no guarantee of income.
No matter if you work for 4 hours or 12 hours on your Poshmark closet, you simply cannot guarantee sales. However, you can make informed decisions to increase your chance of sales, which we will discuss later.
Successful Poshmark Seller Character Traits
The following character traits typically lead to more Poshmark closet success:
- Patience
- Persistence
- Being okay with delayed gratification
- Kind customer service skills
- Ability to refrain from defensiveness
- Interested in running your own business
Patience and being okay with delayed gratification are important traits in a Poshmark seller because it can take time for things to sell. You may list an item and it could sell within a couple of hours or within a couple of months, you truly never know.
Sometimes it just takes time to get the right price point and to have the right buyer come along. You must also have persistence to stick with it, even in times when you’re having slow sales on Poshmark.
As with any venture dealing with internet strangers, you will have to interact with all different kinds of people with varying mannerisms. That is why it is important to always practice kindness when it comes to providing customer service.
You must also refrain from becoming defensive because lowball offers can and will happen on Poshmark. A lowball is when a buyer sends an offer that is incredibly low.
For example, a buyer may offer you $25 for an item that you have listed at $100. In this case, the best practice is to not take it personally and simply counteroffer or decline the offer.

Poshmark Selling Requirements
The first thing that you will need to do is sign up for a Poshmark account if you don’t have one already. Be sure to use our Poshmark invite code, ELEVATED_GOODS, when you sign up!
You will then begin setting up your profile with personal information. You will not be required to input your tax information until you sell over $500 worth of items within one year.
Also, you do not need to have a business license, LLC, or anything other than yourself and your own personal information. Truly anyone can get started easily!
Supplies Needed To Sell On Poshmark
Luckily, there is not much of an upfront cost when it comes to selling on Poshmark. You can start by using items from your very own closet.
Once an item sells, you will need to ship it out. However, you can use old Amazon packaging that you may have lying around to pack up your item in.
If you have a printer already, that’s a great bonus! However, it’s actually not required. When an item sells, Poshmark shipping policies offer sellers the option to generate a QR code for their package.
From there, you just have to take it to USPS, have them scan their QR code, and they will take it from there.
So in this case, Poshmark is worth it because there is little to no financial upfront costs to get started.
Downsides To Poshmark
Time Requirement
Although you get to work on your own time, one of the downsides of Poshmark is that it can be time-consuming. Each individual item that you want to sell will require its own listing.
Within a listing, you have to take pictures, write a title, description, and fill in other information about the item. When you compare this to selling at Plato’s Closet or Uptown Cheapskate, Poshmark may not seem worth it.
If you’re not familiar with Plato’s Closet or Uptown Cheapskate, they are both buy-sell-trade stores. That means that they purchase items from their customers to resell in the store.
Customers can bring in a bag full of their clothing, shoes, and accessories to sell. From there, you can walk away with cash on the spot.

Poshmark Fees
Although you can generally make more money selling on Poshmark versus Plato’s Closet or Uptown Cheapskate, Poshmark still has some hefty fees. Poshmark takes 20% from each sale amount.
This can take a chunk of your earnings, but you will always be informed of your final payout prior to completing the selling transaction.
How To Increase Sales On Poshmark
Although I have an entire post on the Poshmark algorithm and how to increase sales on Poshmark, let's go over a little bit of this here. The most important aspect of being a Poshmark seller is consistency.
It is important for sellers to list a few items every day. These could be brand-new listings or items that are delisted and relisted, with the help of Vendoo (read more about our Vendoo review here).
Another tool that helps with consistency is PosherVA. PosherVA is a service that sends offers to likers and shares the listings in your closet, without you even having to list a finger!
The name of the game is frequent activity on the app to draw more attention and thus buyers to your closet. Poshmark is not a list-it-and-forget-it type of platform.

In my opinion, Poshmark is worth it! I encourage anyone interested to at least give it a shot. When I first started, I never knew how much Poshmark could change my life.
