Poshmark is an online social marketplace for selling new and secondhand clothing items, home goods, beauty products, electronics, and more. When it comes to returns, Poshmark doesn’t operate like our good friend Amazon.
Technically, all sales are final. There are only specific cases where items can be returned. With that being said, Poshmark tries to make buying and selling a frictionless experience for all involved.

Refund Policy
Poshmark advertises the following reasons for accepting returns:
- Damage
- Incorrect or missing item
- Item not as described
- Item is not authentic
Poshmark does NOT allow returns for the following reasons:
- Fit issues
- No longer want
- Delayed delivery
- Trades
Here are a few tips to avoid the above mentioned reasons to return an item:
Fit Issues
Due to differences in size and fit of different brands, it is important to ensure the item will fit when making online purchases. So, if they buyer doesn’t have measurements, ask!
You can comment on the listing and ask for measurements to ensure it will be a good fit. This is especially true for pre-loved clothing items.

Even if you know the brand/style fits you, it doesn’t hurt to ask because there could be shrinkage due to washing and drying.
Measurements you can ask for include bust, hips, length, and waist, depending on the clothing item. At times, the seller may not answer your request. If that is the case, see if you can find another listing with the same item.
No Longer Want The Item
Hey, this happens to the best of us. Maybe you were watching a PoshParty and were three glasses of wine deep and made an impulse buy. Or maybe you saw this super trendy top on Tik-Tok, but now you’re over it by the time it arrives.
If this is the case, Poshmark offers a Re-Posh feature where it creates a listing on your behalf. This way, you can sell the item to try to make some or all of your money back.
This feature uses the pictures, title, category, quantity, size, and brand from the listing of the seller you purchased it from.
You just have to add the price you want to sell it for, and optional features like the listing description, color, and any keywords or style tags.
How To Re-Posh An Item
- Go to the Poshmark app or browser and click “My Purchases”
- Find the item you purchased that you now want to sell
- Scroll to the bottom where it says “Earn Cash”
- Click the blue “Reposh Now” button
- This will pull up a drafted listing of the item for you to publish
Delayed delivery
Maybe you’re ordering an item for a vacation or a certain event and it didn’t arrive on time. To avoid this from happening in the future, there’s a few things to keep in mind.
You have a 3 hour window immediately after purchasing an item to cancel the order.
Once that window passes, you are unable to cancel until the start of the 8th day following your purchase date.

Poshmark items ship Priority Mail either 2-3 business days.
With all of that being said, I would plan for ordering an item at least 10 days prior to when you would need it. I may even add a couple more days for any USPS delays that are out of Poshmark’s hands.
I know that sounds like overkill, but hey I'm just trying to play it safe here!
You can also comment on the listing before you buy to ask the seller when they will be able to ship out the package. Just know that even this isn’t a guarantee for a delivery date!
Trades
Trades on Poshmark are a controversial topic. According to Poshmark terms, trading is allowed on the platform. However, trade at your own risk because they are not covered under the Posh Protect policy.
That means if the item never arrives or arrives not as described, you’re unfortunately out of luck.
How To Report A Problem
Make sure you report a problem with your Poshmark purchase within 3 days, otherwise the funds will automatically be released to the buyer. Once the funds are released, you are not able to receive a refund for an issue.
- Navigate to your Poshmark account
- Go to My Purchases
- Find the item you would like to return
- Problems / Order Inquiry
- Order Not As Described
This will take you to a form that allows you to add pictures and write a description. Be sure to add as many pictures as you can with a detailed description, just to make sure it is clear to the Poshmark reviewers.
The pictures and description go in a chat between you, the seller, and Poshmark reviewers. That is why it is important to be professional here because the seller will see your message.
Address Poshmark, don’t play the blame game with the buyer. You will get an automated message from Poshmark support stating that your comment has been submitted.

I recently had to return a dress that arrived not as described. In the description, it said the dress was dry cleaned and was in excellent condition.
However, the item arrived and had a palm sized white stain on it, multiple snags of the fabric, and smelled like a mix of smoke and body odor. Ugh!
I started a return request the day it arrived. In this case, I got a response the next day stating that the item was approved for a return.
Return Timeline
Once the return is approved by Poshmark, you have two business days to ship the item back to the seller.
I had a return request accepted by Poshmark on a Friday, and I got a message from the Poshmark app that said my item had to ship out by Sunday. This was an automated message that did not take into account that it was a weekend.
When I checked my email, it stated the item had to be postmarked by two business days. I was out of town that weekend anyways, so I shipped the item out when I returned on Monday with no issues.
I made sure to take the item to the post office in order to get a receipt for proof that the item was in the hands of USPS in case anything would happen on their end.
Returning A Bundle
Buying in bundles is popular on Poshmark. After all, you can get more bang for your buck with the hefty $7.67 shipping cost. So what happens if your bundle of items come and just one is defective, damaged, or not as described?
Unfortunately Poshmark requires that all bundle items are sent back. At this current time, there is no way to separate it out and just send back one item. This is unfortunate for both buyers and sellers.
However, although a tedious process, reach out to the seller to see if you can coordinate to repurchase the other items again.
As you can see, there are ways to return an item if things don’t go as planned. However, best practice is the honesty policy with both sellers and buyers.
After all, we’re all in this together with supporting the secondhand market and finding a good deal!
